The QAGTC Gold Coast Branch organises a range of Saturday afternoon workshops for gifted children throughout the school terms. A parent support group usually runs in conjunction with the workshops, sometimes featuring an invited guest speaker.

  • Saturday, 27 March 2010 - 2:00pm - 4:00pm

Where:

  • Qld Academy for Health Sciences
    102 Edmund Rice Drive
  • Southport QLD

Address for instructions:

  • Please meet behind the library

Event type: Parent support group meeting

  • Maximum places: 30

The group aims to provide a regular forum where parents can obtain information, support and advice on raising, motivating and advocating for gifted children, and where they can also make friends and contacts within the QAGTC community, specifically on the Gold Coast.

Particularly if you’ve recently discovered that your child has been identified as gifted and you’re wondering what it all means, it can be helpful to compare notes with others who are experiencing the same challenges in supporting their children, in working with the school systems (or perhaps even homeschooling), and in dealing with a young person whose behaviour and academic performance may not always fall within normal expectations. Discussing your child’s education and development with others in a similar position sometimes helps to put things in perspective. And it can be reassuring to meet parents who have been where you are now, but whose gifted kids have actually “turned out ok”.

This month our meeting falls on the weekend directly after the QAGTC Conference in Brisbane (see www.qagtc.org.au). So rather than having a guest speaker at this PSG Meeting, we will be getting together to share information in an informal way about what we’ve learned at the Conference, and how we can apply it to our own children and/or draw on it when approaching our schools. Participants who weren’t able to travel up to Brisbane for the Conference can benefit from others’ recollections. As usual tea and coffee will be in plentiful supply, as will access to information on resources and contacts.
