On Sunday, 16th August, we launched the 4th and final children’s competition for the year. The theme is ENGINEERING.

To get us all in an engineering frame of mind, we did a bridge building activity to test the strength of different materials. We also noted how the same materials, structured in various ways, create different levels of strength. We measured the strength of the bridges by the amount of weight they could carry before collapsing.

For this term’s competition, you will have two months to design a different structure with the materials provided in the kit(materials and instructions provided in kit).

We will meet for the final time this year on Sunday, 8th November. On this day we will award TWO prizes:

1). A $50 voucher for the winner of the CHEMISTRY (crystal) competition judged beforehand by a panel of experts

2). We will all judge the ENGINEERING competition by seeing which structure holds the most weight. The prize will be a $50.00 voucher for Presents of Mind, Paddington.

Please come along and join the fun as we see and test our ENGINEERING creations.

For anyone who would like to participate in this competition, please email west [at] qagtc [dot] org [dot] au for details on how to obtain the kit. Entry will be $8 for members and $10 for non-members, including postage and handling.
